People die every year from prescriptions properly prescribed and dispensed. Why would you use prescription drugs when a food is an option?
Taking Medicine Doesn't Make Us Healthy
Pharmaceutical drugs are developed for specific effects for a targeted physiological function. They are potent and often toxic to other areas.
THE PROBLEM WITH PRESCRIPTION DRUGS
Prescription drugs are dangerous
108,000 people died, in a single year, from adverse reactions when drugs were prescribed correctly. There is no such thing as a mild or safe drug.
Prescription drugs are prescribed too often
Retail pharmacies filled 3 billion prescriptions in the US in the year 2000. They're used in conditions where food supplements are just as effective.
Drug companies distort prescribing and influence consumers with advertising. From 1993 to 1998, spending by drug companies on heavily advertised drugs increased 612%. In 2006, pharma companies spent $5.3 billion dollars on ads, up 14% from 2005. These companies spend an estimated $10,000 per physician, per company, per year to influence doctors prescribing practices.
Prescription drugs are expensive
Americans alone spend $2.9 billion on over the counter drugs, and another $400 million on prescription medicines for the common cold. More than $1.1 billion is spent annually on the estimated 41 million anti-biotic prescriptions for cold sufferers, even though anti-biotics have no effect on viral illness. Lipitor, an anti-cholesterol drug, used by more than 44 million Americans in 2002 is slated to earn $10 billion annually for its manufacturer.
Why use a drug when a food can do the job?
"The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will instruct his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet, and in the cause and prevention of disease."
- Thomas Edison
"Let food be your medicine..."
- Hippocrates
The holistic properties of plants have multiple and combined benefits without toxicity. It is a fact that most people do not consume an optimal amount of all vitamins by diet alone, therefore it is prudent for all adults to take vitamin supplements.
